German term

Kontoabrechnungen

German to English Bus/Financial Accounting
Kontoabrechnungen, Kontoauszüge, Wertpapier-, Depot- und Erträgnisaufstellungen sowie sonstige Abrechnungen und Mitteilungen entgegennehmen und anerkennen

This is from a Vollmacht Formular - the agent is being authorised to receive various documents from the bank, including Kontoabrechnungen. Various dictionaries have thrown up a translation of 'account statements', but I have been translating 'Kontoauszüge' as account statements. Another option is 'bank reconciliation account', but this seems to be a document that one (or one's accountant) prepares oneself so wouldn't be sent by the bank.

Can anyone suggest a translation or explain the distinction between Kontoabrechnungen and Kontoauszüge?

Agree with David.

@Abi: that is how I understand the difference between the two.

I'd suggest they are described as "periodic bank statements" and "bank statement extracts", which tells the reader that they are not the same thing.

Thanks David and gangels. So could a Kontoauszug just contain a selection of the transactions that have taken place (relevant to whatever it is being verified), like an extract from the Kontoabrechnung? Am I understanding it correctly?
David Moore (X) Feb 20, 2014:
Abi, these terms must be treated with care; as gangels says, the first term usually applies at the end of a period, and therefore includes all debits to an account (OD/bank charges etc.) while the second can be drawn from the transactions completed at any time.

Don't by the way fall into the trap of immediately accepting all previous posts on this site - even glossary entries; a fair number of them are downright wrong...
gangels (X) Feb 20, 2014:
Kontoabrechnung > Kontoauszug The first is the monthly statement (Account statement) listing ALL your account's credits, debits and balances for the month.
The second (Account confirmation) is proof of one or several transaction(s) inside the account having taken place (which theoretically can go back months or years) to verify a specific point (legal issues/loan applications etc)

Thank you for the references and sorry for not spotting the previous entry

This should be it.

neutral David Moore (X) : If it is, it has to be qualified (see Gangels' discussion entry) by monthly, etc.
