tak to oddałbym, bo - tu nie chodzi o "okres trwania patentu", bo - co do zasady - taki "okres" jest niezmienny (z wyłączeniem tzw. "SPCs") i trwa 20 lat od daty zgłoszenia (application/filing date) w urzędzie patentowym, pod warunkiem uiszczania okresowych opłat za ochronę;
datą krytyczną jest data zgłoszenia -- data, z jaką prawo wyłączne (exclusive right) jest skuteczne, a przede wszystkim - wyznacza - pierwszeństwo (priority);
fraza z pytania jest związana z zawinionymi przez urząd (USPTO) lub zgłaszającego - opóźnieniami lub uchybieniami formalnymi po zgłoszeniu i ma wpływ na czas postępowania w odniesieniu do daty udzielenia (issue date)

Patent term adjustment (PTA) is a process of extending the term of a US patent. Its intention is to accommodate for delays caused by the US patent office during the Prosecution of a US patent application. The total PTA is an addition to the 20 year lifespan of a US patent.
The delays are broadly classified into 4 types:
Type A
Type B
Type C

The PTA calculation under 35 USC § 154(b) indicated on the patent is the official notification of the Office’s patent term adjustment determination. Any request for reconsideration pursuant to 37 CFR 1.705(b) of the PTA calculation pursuant shall be made within two months of the issuance of the patent. See 37 CFR 1.705(b). The time period under 37 CFR 1.705(b) may be extended by five months.

: bardzo sorry, Michał - ale "czas trwania patentu" - jak to określiłeś opisowo - nie ulega zmianie; dalej - w mojej odpowiedzi || to są zawiłości prawa patentowego USA, jednak "czas trwania patentu" jest zdefiniowanym pojęciem i tu jest użyte wadliwie

Niemniej, dochodzę do wniosku i zgody ze sobą, że nie będzie tu jakiś chimeryczno-fanaberyjny system patentowy zza Wielkiej Wody - wpływał na solidarne, lojalne i rzetelne stosunki wśród muszkieterskiej Braci ! :))

Nie jestem ekspertem w tej dziedzinie. Tłumaczyłem w życiu może tylko kilka patentów. Patrzę na zwroty użyte - may reduce / earned term adjustment / may be extended by five months
