(Btw, checked out the Russian original of that FBIS translated (!) Voyennyy entsiklopedicheskiy slovar, Ogarkov, N.V. Moscow: Voyenizdat 1983. :-) Quite a granddad. I was promoted capt. that year. :-) I bet FBIS guys were then no better that ourselves today.
Gary actually has a whole library of dictionaries that are pretty unique. Take my word for it.
David, expand the context before you write uninformed nonsense again. It may mean both sitting sidewise (so that you full profile is seen) and approx. 45 degrees.
