The system re-hash was meant to simplyfiy everything. There have been so many mishpas with it, that some people have found themselves with zillions of euros to pay in arrears, then severe over-payments having been made. A real mess. The RSI kind of grouped health and retirement together, but the old names still appear there somewhere when you root around enough. Admisntriation and payment are handled by separate structures within the system but they are all linked. I'm not sure any one individual alive today understands it all really. Still, the RSI is, I am certain, not the "régime des salariés indépendants" although you can find this misnomer all over the place, insurance company sites and so on. One place you will not find the term is the RSI site : a clue! ;-)

Do not lose sight of the fact that it is a proper noun and should not be translated, but you do probalby need something descriptive as a translator's note.

Well, you're right. I used to be with the RAM then it all got gobbled up and spat out again as the RSI. I was over-summarizing! However, the issue is that the Régime des salariés indépendant" does not exist, that it is indeed the RSI Régime social des indépendants.

The search engine for the http://www.securite-sociale.fr/ site will give zero hits for "salariés indépendants" for the very simple reason of it not existing. ;-)

It is a very common mistake (ex : http://aayassur.com/?c=devis-mutuelle&p=travailleur-non-sala... ) and for the very reasons you instinctively raise in your question should make folk think twice, but there you are.

OK. The MSA is a proper noun. However, you should probably check with your client as I suspect they mean the RSI, in which case, as you can check through the official sources, is as stated, the Régime social des indépendants).

Check the list at the foot of the page of the official site of the "Sécurité sociale" : MSA and RSI are there. I suspect there is simply a (common) error in your original. http://www.securite-sociale.fr/Information
