文脈に従ってこの場合のsignificantを思いっきり意訳しますと、「削除しても差し支えないデータかどうか判断に迷う(外れ値)」ということになるようですのでご指摘のnoteworthyが該当するわけですが、「顕著」と訳してしまうと、「外れ値」として「顕著」なものは通常削除して構わないではないかと言うことになりそうです。統計文書でsignificantを不用意に使うのは考えものですね。

Here, "significant" just means "important, noteworthy". It's not "statistically significant outlier" in the sense of https://books.google.ie/books?id=ejTKAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT372

影響の大きい外れ値

文の後半にある 「ロバスト性統計」がヒントです。この統計が必要になる理由は、外れ値の影響が大きい場合です。最も単純な方法は、そのような外れ値を落としてしまうこともできますが、他の計算方法もあります。ロバスト性統計、外れ値、影響、で検索すると説明がでてきますよ。

”外れ値の影響が...” ”外れ値の影響を受けやすい” "外れ値に引きずられ.." という表現をよく使います。
