German term

blankziehen

Wicklungsanfänge blankziehen:
Ca. 35±5 mm blankziehen

Hi everyone!

My first thought was "blankziehen = strip", but am starting to think that perhaps only applies to people, not wires... In the accompanying pictures, it seems as if the plastic insulation has already been stripped off before one reaches this step (picture not very clear though). Langenscheid has "brightdrawing", and I have found "bright draw wire" online, but would that be correct here and how would one use it as a verb? "Bright-draw approx. 35±5 mm"?

The context is building a stator, this step comes after the windings have been placed onto the stator core.

Thanks for any help!

Discussion

Johannes Gleim Feb 8, 2016:
@ babbelbekkie Da habe ich auch Zweifel. Im Ernst heißt es blank ziehen (Stanz) / bright-draw, blankgezogen (Draht) / rack-drawn.
Herbie Feb 8, 2016:
Stripping also refers to the removal of an insulation from a conductor, be it PE, rubber, varnish, etc.

How to Strip a Wire
Safe, durable electrical connections begin with clean, accurate wire stripping. Removing the outer layer of plastic without nicking the wires underneath is critical. If a wire does get nicked, the connection may break or an electrical short may occur.
:
A simple manual wire stripper is a pair of opposing blades much like scissors. There are several notches of varying size. This allows the user to match the notch size to the wire size, which is very important for not damaging the wires.
Warning: Many wire strippers found at the hardware store do not strip small gauge wire (22 to 30). When getting into prototyping, be sure to get a tool that is capable of stripping 22 AWG and smaller. Being able to strip very small 30 AWG wire (also known as wire wrap wire) is a plus.
Although a knife would also strip the wires, it may also damage the wire by nicking the metal or cutting into it. Using a knife to strip wire is also really dangerous! The knife can easily slip and cause wicked injuries.

Enameled Aluminum Wire or Enamelled copper wire, also called "Magnet Wire," is widely used in various Electrical Applications due to its superior Electrical, Thermal and Mechanical Properties. Enameled Aluminium Wire /Enameled Copper Wire are insulated by coating it with enamel of different temperature class. Enamelled Aluminum Wire /Enamelled Copper Wire are primarily used in three types of applications - in transformers to transform one kind of electrical energy into other kinds. Aluminum Enameled Wire and Copper Enameled Winding Wire are used in motors to transform electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Hi,my question is very simple.
How to remove the coating from an enameled copper wire?
I have to do this for hundreds of wires and hope there's a way easier than scratching with a knife or burning and scratching.I tried with the most powerful solvent I found...and nothing,of course :)

Any tips for stripping and soldering thin, tiny wires like these below, (maybe even thinner!)?
Initially, I would think of using a knife for stripping because wire strippers will definitely not work. Then with soldering, too large solder flows are highly unwanted

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to both of you, I wish I could split the points. I went with "baring / stripping bare" and other versions of that as grammatically appropriate in the other sentences that used "blankziehen", to differentiate this "abschaben" step from the normal "stripping" step (taking the plastic off) that came earlier already. So thanks to Ruth for the "clean to the bare metal" input and thanks to Johannes for showing that "bright-draw" is not the way to go."

bright-draw / here: clean to the bare metal

"blank" hier = "to the bare metal" (clean, blast, etc. ...)

Note: Hier gleich "abschaben": http://www.eschke.com/assets/bauanleitung_ansicht.pdf
"1. Stator: Wickeln Sie den Draht vorsichtig ab, so dass er sich nicht verheddert. (Tipp: Nehmen Sie eine Stuhllehne zu Hilfe!). Teilen Sie ihn in zwei gleich lange Stücke. ..."

disagree Johannes Gleim : Die Referenzen enthalten keine englischen Begriffe. "bright-draw" hat mit Abisolieren nicht zu tun, sondern mit Metallbearbeitung.
