French term

remplacer la ou

Non-PRO French to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Software
Files are held centrally on a remote server, but sometimes there are also local copies that may have been edited. If the operator asks for one or more files to be downloaded from the server, and some have local copies, a query box asks:

"Voulez-vous remplacer la ou les fiches sélectionnées depuis le serveur?"

I read that as saying "Replace local files with files from server?"

Might I be missing anything?

TIA.

@all Thanks. It's really a record but it was a long session and the coffee machine broke down before I started. So let's write it all off as an aberration and thanks to everyone who helped.
Thomas T. Frost Feb 14, 2016:
Adopted how? I can't see any obvious IT meaning of "fiche" there. It could refer to the contents, such as a data sheet, while the file itself would be a fichier, but DLyons probably knows what it is.
philgoddard Feb 14, 2016:
It used to be a physical record... ... but now it's been adopted by IT.

Thomas T. Frost Feb 14, 2016:
Record A record in IT is an enregistrement (ref. https://www.microsoft.com/Language/en-US/Search.aspx at least). A fiche is a card/form/sheet/slip/record (in a general sense, not in the IT meaning). It needs to be sorted out exactly what "fiche" refers to.
philgoddard Feb 14, 2016:
Good point, Thomas It's a record rather than a file.
Thomas T. Frost Feb 14, 2016:
Fiches? Does it really say "fiches"? The correct word for a computer file is "fichier". "Do you want to replace the selected file(s) by one or more file(s) from the server?"
DLyons (asker) Feb 14, 2016:
Nice one! Brain-fart rather than ischemia hopefully.
philgoddard Feb 14, 2016:
You had a brainstorm That's why you put TIA at the end of your question :-)
DLyons (asker) Feb 14, 2016:
@Phil Thanks. It's all in how you parse it!!! I I manged to split up "la ou les" in my mind :-) No coffee.
philgoddard Feb 14, 2016:
Donal Your question is a bit confusing. If I understand you correctly, you're asking about not "remplacer la ou" but "sélectionnées depuis le serveur". Presumably you know what "remplacer la ou les fiches" means.
