English term

POLICE JUDGE

English to Italian Law/Patents Law (general) certificato di matrimonio
signature of the person performing the ceremony

official position: XXXX city police judge

the functions sound pretty similar to a peace judge / peace justice......... but I'd be surprised if I had to translate it as Giudice di Pace.

Thanks!

Discussion

Shabelula (asker) Mar 30, 2016:
@Ana Claudia Macoretta: because they are two different titles. Wikipedia mentions the case of Louisiana, having a police judge, a parish judge and a peace judge for such things. All can perform marriages
Ana Claudia Macoretta Mar 30, 2016:
I am not so sure that justice of the peace is correct…the city police judge belongs to the Police Department and he is a policeman. But the justice of the peace belongs to the Judiciary and he is no policeman. Why being English the source language haven’t they used justice of the peace directly, if that was the meaning, instead of saying city police judge?
