La partie du moteur située juste au-dessus du block est en effet la culasse. Or la culasse correspond au terme anglais "cylinder head" qu'il est impensable d'ignorer par l'auteur d'un texte sur la mécanique automobile !

C'est pourquoi, je pense que l'auteur se réfère à la partie du moteur appelée "rocker cover" en anglais et "cache-culbuteurs" en français.

En effet, cette partie, située au sommet du moteur, ressemble à un véritable couvercle qui recouvre les arbres-à-cames en tête - overhead camshafts - qui portent les culbuteurs qui actionnent l'ouverture et la fermeture des soupapes.

: In the absence of more explicit context, I think this is the only logiczl conclusion; but do we still call it a 'rocker' cover even today, when there may not even be any rockers at all?

If this is the case, we need a bit more details about the pupose (tôle de protection, carénage, déflecteur...)
For "cylinder head cover" the only proper term nowadays is "couvre-culasse", used by all French manufacturers in their workshop manuals, as this term covers (!) both actual rockers with pushrods in OHV engines (not seen one in cars since years out of V engines?), OHC and DOHC variants with or without tappets, rockers, etc.
Also "couvre" is much better than "cache", this is a functional and sealed part, nothing to do with hiding for esthetic purpose
Is this actually a part of the car — or some item used during manufacture?
Cylinder blocks don't normally have 'covers' — the part at the top used traditionally to be called a 'rocker cover', even though that term literally is now redundant since overhead camchafts came into universal use.
Is the EN in your document reliable? It may be that someone has named the part very literally, without knowing the usual technical term for it.
