English term

K-4 kids

English to Italian Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Dear ProZ members,

I'm finding it difficult to understand how the US school system classification works.
This is a reporter talking about the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown:

Breaking News coming to us from Newtown Ct, Sandy Hook Elementary, this is K-4 kids, where there has been a mass shooting this morning.

What information does "K-4 kids" exactly conveys here? Is he saying children from a certain age to a certain age attend the school?

Thank you!
Change log

May 9, 2016 19:41: Francesco Badolato changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): AdamiAkaPataflo, Giuseppe Bellone, Francesco Badolato

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

bambini dai cinque ai dieci anni

cioè dal kindergarden al quarto grado di primary school. Nello stato del Connecticut si accede al kindergaderden a cinque anni (vedi link) e in genere si termina il quarto grado a dieci anni.

però, noto ora:
Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children aged between 6 and 7 years old,...

quindi alla fine parlerei di "prime classi delle elementari" o, appunto, "bambini di 6-7 anni"
