pattern making
I'm translating a book on fashion patterns and the word giaccone is defined as follows:
Giaccone
Il giaccone è cappotto con una lunghezza che può andare da 3/4 (alla coscia) a 7/8 e 9/10 sopra il ginocchio. Può avere
tutte le forme e i tagli ed essere confezionato con gli stessi tessuti del cappotto classico.
Immediately above it is the definition of the loden, and above that is the description of the "cappotto classico" which lists all the variations possible, for example, double- or single-breasted, straight sides or with darts, raglan or set-in sleeves etc. So the only differentiation they are making between "giaccone" and "cappotto" is the length, giaccone being precisely from the thigh to just above the knee.
I cannot use the terms jacket, topcoat or overcoat, as those are already being used in other sections. I've suggested to the client that we don't necessarily have a word for this in english, but that we would modify the word coat (for example, knee-length coat, midi coat, full-length coat). As such this section should be removed, and a paragraph about length added to the "classic overcoat section". They are not accepting that as an option for some reason.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Bomber (jacket)
This is a widely used term in the industry both in Italian and English.
Note from asker:
hi, no, bombers are shorter than thigh-knee length, and the word bomber jacket was already used in the "jacket" section. thank you for the response though! |
