Spanish term

la sexta edad media

Spanish to English Art/Literary History Architectural history
Again, this appears in academic records from the University of Costa Rica. This phrase is from the course description for History of Architecture I, in a bullet-pointed list under the heading "CONTENIDOS":

CONTENIDOS

Artes visuales y espacio arquitectónico (según tipologías arquitectónicas).
Cultura de Recolección y caza. Culturas sedentarias.
Primeros conceptos espaciales y arquitectónicos.
Las civilizaciones imperiales hidráulicas.
Civilizaciones mediterráneas no imperiales.
Civilizaciones imperial-cosmopolitas
Civilizaciones Orientales (India, Japón, Indochina)
Civilizaciones Amerindias (precoloniales).
La cultura Bizantina
La cultura Ottomana y Merovingia.
***La Sexta Edad Media*** y el Románico
La Baja Edad Media y el Gótico.
All in all, an interesting list. There is some talk in the Book of Revelations about the Sixth Age, being near the end of times - but not the Sixth Middle Age. Some early Christians believed that the Second Coming was near, & might occur, in one version, around the year 500 CE; but that is much too early for the Romanesque, which began maybe around 1100 or so.
I've looked everywhere and every way I can think of, but can't make any sense out of it. Maybe it's a typo, but I can't think for what...
All help much appreciated -

No, I don't think so. All the other items on the list are major civilizations and movements. I can't see one crusade having an influence on the history of architecture and, as John says, his answer is the perfect complement to La Baja Edad Media y el Gótico.

Could it be referring to the successful 'Sexta Cruzada de la Edad Media', which took place in 1228-29?

the High Middle Ages

Given that it is "and Romanesque", could not be anything but "the High Middle Ages". The next is "La Baja Edad Media y el Gótico".

Seems to me like an error.

(I also looked for this "Sixth Middle Ages..." and either my "Sixth Sense" is not working or there is no such "beast"... ;-)

You're welcome, Tom.

I had my doubts myself, as I am not exactly a "buff" of the Middle Ages, but in the context couldn't be anything else.

(I do definitely like the Romanesque art I've seen in Barcelona, Spain, but I prefer Gaudí... ;-)
