| yes, i know it's a little pleonastic, though it could engage poorly I suppose without "girare a vuoto", so I wanted something that would give an idea of rotating on itself without being able to engage. Most similar ideas apply to engines, like "whirring" and therefore don't seem to work at all for such minute distances |

: "girare a vuoto" does indeed also mean "run around" (in the sense of not having a precise destination), but this definition is not applicable to this context. It's a different kind of "girare a vuoto".
