Themenwelt

German to English Art/Literary Interior design
"Themenwelten.

Wer Farben identifiziert, muss sie begründen. Welche Strömungen liegen dahinter? Warum funktionieren Brauntöne im Interior, aber nicht in der Automobilbranche?"

This is a relatively harmless sentence from a scream-inducingly oblique text about colours in interior design. Having finished the first draft, I'm relying on a good night's sleep to provide me with inspiration, but suspect that it might be a better idea to run one or two things by my ProZ colleagues.

For starters: What would you say for "Themenwelten"? Please be as creative as you like. Personally, I don't like the word "world" in this context, but maybe that's just me.

Many thanks

Ian

agree raab : sounds nicer than "universe of subjects" which is possibly more accurate

Colour schemes

I like "theme schemes" above as well but if the only subject covered is colour, perhaps "colour schemes" would suffice?

agree danilingua : I sued to work in Interior design, and I just wanted to write it down, when I came accross it. This is what is used in interior design to describe a certain "scheme"

endless variations on a theme

I know I am taking quite a bit of liberty, but to my feeling "Thema" is something rather different from "Schema", whereas in German it is quite common to speak of "Farbschemen". If the author meant the latter, why did he or she not phrase it so?
While "scheme" connotates a planned arrangement for achieving a purpose or design, "theme" refers more to a blending or composition of elements in order to achieve harmony.
I admit that this is all rather subjective -- but aren't we talking about asthetics as opposed to physics?
