Attention Jean, en français le stock en consignation est un concept particulier qui implique que la marchandise livrée n'est pas facturée au client, mais qu'elle appartient toujours au fournisseur, et la facturation se fera à un moment défini entre le fournisseur et l'acheteur (en général fin de mois). Je ne suis pas certaine qu'à partir de la phrase fournie par Laurie, on puisse conclure qu'il s'agisse de stock en consignation. Je comprends plutôt qu'il s'agit d'un arrivage de bananes, sans plus de détails (Laurie pourra peut-être confirmer en fonction du contexte).

another way of looking at BD's explanation there is NO SUCH TERM as

"consignment at delivery"

there isn't any kind of special "consignment" that would be happening / being linked to "a delivery"

you can't make a "term" from two parts of a sentence that both keep their standalone meaning!

"consignment" is part of "accept more bananas from the consignment"
and
"at delivery" is another separate part of the sentence

From what I understand, the translated phrase could then go like this:

Difference between the consignment and delivery As noted below to Jean, the consignment is what is received, from the grower, by the wholesaler. Part of the consignment is then sold and delivered to each of the retailers in question. It makes the wholesaler's job much easier and reduces waste if they can control the ripening process to enable the retailers to accept e.g. twice the quantity of bananas from that same consignment. Otherwise, the retailers might take, e.g. half from that consignment and half from the next consignment sent by the growers, so that the bananas don't get over-ripe or spoiled in the retail outlet.

Merci pour cette remarque. Dans ce contexte particulier, "from the consignement" est rendu par "des livraisons" (qui renvoie aussi à "at delivery") dans la solution offerte. J'entends le mot "consignment" comme lot/envoi de bananes, et donc, livraison.

What do you mean by "CL5"? I perfectly understood that the bananas were delivered to retailers and the more bananas accepted by the retailers, the better for the wholesaler! Is your comment a reply to my message to Jean regarding "stock en consignation"?

to make sense of this sentence you need to look at the whole of:

a bit of Non-Virtual-World v.1:

the "consignment" is simply the delivered wholesale shipment of bananas

most wholesale markets operate in a very similar way:

when a wholesale shipment arrives, it's without any further ado offered to waiting retailers / buyers [often very early in the morning, so that shopkeepers have time to get to their shops before opening time]

that explains the "at delivery" bit - all this resale of the freshly delivered "consignment" is done right at arrival time [i.e. at the time of the wholesale delivery]!

yes, of course that that can happen, but this ST is about the stage when a successfully delivered consignment [of bananas dispatched by the growers] is straight away resold to retailers // the danger of ending on the ocean floor is in the past ...
