French term
attaché de faculté
French to English
Other
Education / Pedagogy
Title of a position at a university
This appears as the occupation of the father of a person whose birth certificate I am translating, so there is no context. From searching online I have the impression that "attaché de faculté" is an outdated term, but I have not been able to find a description or definition of the duties involved so I have no idea what this would be in US English.

Selected
Assistant Professor
All of the references I have found seem to suggest that a) this is a temporary position and b) it is related to science/medicine.
See this link on Legifrance, article 2:
"Les attachés de faculté ou école nationale chefs de clinique et les attachés de faculté ou école nationale assistants de sciences fondamentales sont des personnels temporaires ; ils exercent dans les centres hospitaliers et universitaires des activités d'enseignement et de recherche à temps complet."

The Clinical research blog gave the translation for attaché de faculté as Assistant Professor.

I am not as familiar with the US system as you (I am UK based) but I hope this helps.
