English term

dosing

English to French Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
Dans un courrier relatif aux conséquences de dégâts dans une usine de biogas en Allemagne.

Dans "URGENT. Defaults when dosing : for a few days, there have been defaults appearing randomly when dosing, forcing the dosing to stop only after a few minutes.X has tried to contact you regarding this point but could not reach you. I would like to insist on the fact that this is a problem that should be taken tare of in the best delays. It makes the plant operation very difficult. X has to spend hours to introduce only a few tons."

Pas d'autres occurrence.

Merci d'avance.

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): GILLES MEUNIER

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

B D Finch Feb 6, 2018:
As an aside The writer's English is a bit hit or miss. By "defaults" they obviously mean "faults". "Defaults" is nonsense in this context.

But you really need to do some basic research about biogas plants, to find ut what it is that is being 'doesd' and for what purpose? That, I suspect, will lead you to a more suitable translation of the composite term you will presumably end up with.
Peer comment(s):

agree B D Finch : Perhaps you are over-cautious. Dosing can, I think, be taken to mean adding measured amounts of whatever to something.

Thanks, B! Yes, abcolutely! My only qualm is that in many industries, the term changes according to what is being dosed.

simplement déduit p.ex. "dosage de potassium" déterminé par analyse du sang
Peer comment(s):

disagree B D Finch : Blood in the machines producing biogas? How does "dosing" become analysis?// Your explanation makes no sense and I recognise nonsense when I read it.

you can't read?
agree GILLES MEUNIER : mesure plutôt

thanks
disagree Tony M : BDF is right: it's hard to see how one can get to this from 'dosing', which implies 'measuring out' — which might be done as a result of some analysis.
