English term

s. 32

English to Croatian Law/Patents Law (general) Police
Section 32
Section 32(1) of PACE empowers the police to search an arrested person where that person has been arrested at a place other than a police station. In order to be able to exercise this consequential power, however, the arresting officer must have reasonable grounds for believing that the arrested person may present a danger to himself or others. Section 32(2) further provides that “in any such case”, a constable also has the power to search the arrested person for anything which he might use to assist him to escape from custody, or which might be evidence relating to the offence for which he has been arrested. Additionally, s.32(2)(b) empowers the police to search the premises where the person was arrested, or the place where he was immediately prior to the arrest, for evidence relating to the offence. Thus, although the relevant premises may be owned or occupied by the arrested person, this need not necessarily be the case.

PAZITE: Ne trazim da mi netko kaze "čl. 32". Radi se o samoj ovlasti, koja se kod nas jednostavno zove s.32. Hvala unaprijed.

Discussion

Daryo Aug 5, 2019:
Maybe "ovlasti prilikom prikupljanja dokaza"?

I think it boils down more or less to that - what the police can or can not do to get evidence while investigating a crime.

"prikupljanje dokaza" would be a general term that would include searches, interrogations, forensics etc ...

Section 32(1) of PACE = odjeljak 32 Zakona o ovlastima prilikom prikupljanja dokaza (pretres uhićenih lica van policijske postaje)

Can't see anything shorter.

Ne If I just wanted a literal translation of s.32, I could do it myself.

Koja ovlast Odnosno ovlast pretresa osobe uhićene van službenih prostorija policije ili nešto u tom smislu.
Daryo Feb 26, 2018:
It's a similar situation as with the "section 8" (one of your other related questions)

If you want it to make sense to someone outside UK [or more accurately, even to someone outside UK police forces - for the average UK citizen it's total gobbledegook], you can't just simply literally translate "Section 32" (or if you do, you need to add some explanations ...)

Do I understand well that you are looking for the (shortest possible) description of these powers?

odjeljak 32 (ovlasti prema odjeljku 32)

This is obviously an EU thing, never translated before. There is no other way than to translate it literally, At least for now. With a slight correction to your instructions. It is not an Article (članak). It is a whole section (odjeljak)
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : it's got nothing to do with EU, PACE = Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 is a UK law, in fact not even that - it's applicable ONLY in England and Wales, not in Scotland! see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_and_Criminal_Evidence_A...
