Two groups of midlevel managers were ‘treated’ with alternatively arranged strategic measurement systems. Decision making differences were noted and conclusions about effectiveness were made. What is unclear is what happened after the researchers departed. A good chance existed that, having allowed the researchers the ability to experiment, the bank reverted to its status quo which appears to be neither of the treatments.
