English term

areas of intervention

Non-PRO English to French Tech/Engineering Architecture
"He is active in the areas of intervention in the research and experimentation in the fields of automotive, domestic and urban spaces, technology and lifestyle"

A propos d'un designer. Je ne vois pas ce que "areas of intervention" vient ajouter à la phrase et l'ensemble me déroute. Votre point de vue me sera utile, merci d'avance !

Discussion

I still tend to agree with Isabelle's puzzlement. I have read and re-read Daryo's idea, but grammatically I am bothered by the "the" in "the research and experimentation" if we are to accept that interpretation. I realise it is not great to consider "a priori" that the source text must have a mistake in it, but I wonder if it is possible to check with the client?
Isabelle Cluzel (asker) Jun 12, 2018:
I get your point, Daryo, thank you, but to me it still does not make any sense... being active and intervene amount to the same...
Daryo Jun 12, 2018:
a different parsing? would make the sentence perfectly logical / coherent:

"He is active in the areas of
intervention in the research and experimentation
in the fields of automotive, domestic and urban spaces, technology and lifestyle"
=
the areas in which he is active is:
"intervention in the research and [intervention in] experimentation" in (list of fields)

IOW

he is not "conducting" himself the "research and experimentation", but "intervening in" this "research and experimentation" - possibly as some kind of "external consultant/adviser"

or presented in another way:

"He is active in the areas of intervention in the research and experimentation in the fields of automotive, domestic and urban spaces, technology and lifestyle\"

the areas of intervention in the research and experimentation = this designer is active in the areas "intervention in the research" and "intervention in the experimentation" [= WHAT he is doing]

in the fields of ... [= WHERE, IN WHICH fields he doing it]

personnellement, ça me fait penser que la phrase a été reformulée sans que la tournure d'origine n'ait été effacée. " He is active in (the areas of intervention in the) research and experimentation...." "Areas of intervention" semble très français.... (domaines d'intervention).
