French term

genèse

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
This is a website for an asset management company. I am unsure of what this means.

Nous nous sommes engagés dans l'économie réelle en participant à la genèse et la création d’un fonds destiné à financer des entreprises sur le marché obligataire, qui s'appuie sur une stricte analyse du business model de ces sociétés et de leur structure financière.

ideation/design/drafting and setting-up of... ?

@ Jessica You should post this as an answer
Jessica Noyes Jul 8, 2018:
Reword nouns to verbs I think that instead of finding a noun here e.g. "participating in (say) the inception of," it would be preferable to just cut to the chase; you would skip the "participation" concept and just say, "...by planning and creating a fund," or other words to that effect.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Jul 8, 2018:
In context, the "genèse" precedes the "création", which, unless the author was intending to use the terms as synonyms for emphatic purposes, suggests that the first term describes the initiation of the idea and that the creation is about the action of setting up. The important thing here will be to get the terms right as a pair.
polyglot45 Jul 8, 2018:
génèse = genesis as in the Bible. The beginning. They were involved in the process right from the start and played a part in shaping the concept and establishing the actual fund

neutral Tony M : The 'genesis' is really 'the birth of the idea'; this suggestion would better serve as a translation for the second term, 'création'

agree Tony M : I think 'inception' is the better of you 2 suggestions here. / I don't agree with mrrafe here: 'creation' is something of a faux ami in many ways, and here, I would prefer to use 'setting up', leaving 'inception' suitable for the first term

it is, thx
neutral mrrafe : I don't think inception is sufficiently different from the second term, creation. Genesis would be better because it's a literal translation and could be interpreted as preceding creation, when the fund was merely some thoughts.
