Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003

Part 4 ‘Dispersal Notices’.

Dispersal Notices is a police power. The Act contains new powers to permit police to disperse groups of two or more and return young people under 16 who are unsupervised in public places after 9pm to their homes.

Section 30: ‘Dispersal of groups and removal of persons under 16 to their place of residence where police believe that members of the public have been intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed as a result of the behaviour of two or more persons in designated public places and that anti-social behaviour is a significant and persistent problem’.

Police may give one or more of the following directions; a requirement to disperse, a requirement for those who do not live in the locality to leave and a direction prohibiting those who do not reside in that locality from returning within 24 hours.
