Portuguese term

luvas

Portuguese to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) This is not \"luvas\" in the sense of property rental.
The context here is footbal clubs and TV broadcasting rights. It has nothing to do with commercial rents. The full phrase is "O Clube de Futebol XYZ terá direito a luvas de R$10 milhões." It refers to participation of XYZ in amounts generated by TV broadcasting rights of games. So I don't think that "key money" is the appropriate translation here. Suggestions, please!

Discussion

Martin Riordan (asker) May 25, 2019:
@ Tobias Hi Tobias. I have seen nothing to suggest that it will be paid more than once. The contract is for six seasons (years).

@Martin I see in one example luvas being used to describe an annual amount. Does that jibe with your context or is it strictly a one time fee?

Signing Bonus

A signing bonus is a lump sum of money to be paid to a player when he signs a contract. This bonus is often a key aspect of contract negotiations, because it is the only truly guaranteed money in any contract. Signing bonuses are not, however, counted in their entirety the year a player signs the contract. Instead, the dollar value is prorated over the length of the contract, up to a maximum of five years. That is only for accounting, though; the bonus is paid, in its entirety, at signing. Let's go back to our example contract. Let's assume Bob Player's contract includes a $3 million signing bonus. It would then be a three-year, $13 million contract, broken down as follows:
$2 million ($1 million salary and $1 million signing bonus (prorated)) in year 1
$5 million ($4 million salary and $1 million signing bonus (prorated)) in year 2
$6 million ($5 million salary and $1 million signing bonus (prorated)) in year 3

signing-on fee

The term in football for players is "signing-on fee" which is the same idea - a bonus for signing the contract.
In standard employment the term is signing bonus or sign-on bonus.. all 3 make sense and mean "luvas"..
Example sentence:

He will be rewarded with a massive signing on fee and top wages

However, a deal with Barcelona has already fallen through due to his £175,000/week demands, as well as a signing on fee of £10m
