1 Dec 2010 - The mechanism of regurgitation is leaflet restriction with reduced motion described both in systole and in diastole. This is distinguished from functional mitral regurgitation where the primary abnormality is the left ventricle, and unless severe, the restriction of leaflet motion is seen in systole alone.
