Peer comment(s):

agree Michael Grabczan-Grabowski : Seizor would fit more generally, I would say. However, if the original text is talking about seizing private property for military use, then I would use commandeerer. // Yes, very rare, but it suits the very specific context.

Thank you, Michael. It is a rare word but it ideally captures the concept.

The rule for determining what may be required before a seizure may be made by a competent seizing official is not to be determined by the character of the penalty to which the transporter may be subjected. - https://tinyurl.com/ycctty49

The rationale for this change is to provide a means for the seizing official to address all issues surrounding remission, or return, of the seized item prior to disposal, and for the seizing official or evidence custodian to address issues concerning prior illegality, as outlined in Section 12.32, prior to disposal. - https://tinyurl.com/y83etjwn

§ 8.3 Seizing property subject to forfeiture.
(a) Authority of seizing agents. All special agents of any seizing agency may seize assets under any federal statute over which the agency has investigative or forfeiture jurisdiction. - https://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/28/8.3

This comment explores precisely the issue at bar, i. e., "the status of a seizure where the seizing officer did not know, or have probable cause to believe, that the item seized was a fruit, instrumentality, or contraband evidencing another crime." The author's conclusion is that such a seizure contravenes the Fourth Amendment. - https://law.justia.com/cases/alabama/supreme-court/1973/282-...
