Spanish term

aval (ver contexto)

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) Consular Reqiuirements
Hola colegas!

Pienso que "guarantor" goes a bit too far. What if Mr XXX comete algún tipo de error/delito??

Thank you!

In support of

As a former consular officer, I have seen the term "supporting" documents required when applying for a visa be it for tourism or business. One generally does not need an affidavit of support however except in the case of an immigrant visa.

representative

The person seems to be a representative of someone else who'd been invited to attend a share-holders' meeting, but instead another arrived as a substitute. A letter of presentation with a lot of information is required from the guest's home country.

Spanish term (edited): aval

sponsor/ing

See the context above - pace Wilsonn.

Low CL / confidence level as unclear therefromn whether there is any financial liability being underwritten.

'Sponsor' and 'sponsorship letter' are the only terms I remember from my Central London Notarial Office that dealt with thousands of these applications to Consulates and Embassies the world over, so am slightly puzzled hat no one else has raised these permutations and combinations.
Peer comment(s):

agree Robert Carter : Yes, seems to be implying something slightly more engaged than a referee.

Thanks, Robert. Looks like I 'backed' the wrong horse, though Notaries Public routinely sign off such 'sponsorship papers' in the UK in general.

But, in this case, being a shareholder's meeting and an invitee, perhaps "supporter/backer/guarantor" are other options (patinba already provided "reference").
Peer comments on this reference comment:

agree Toni Castano : "Guarantor" would be my choice.

Thanks Toni. Personally, I was leaning towards "backer". Stay safe.
