English term

providing any services to a company that the individual knows or suspects

English to Japanese Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
I'm translating a document about "Code of Conduct", in which there is a sentence I don't understand at all:

"Outside Employment. An employee being employed by, serving as a director of, or providing any services to a company that the individual knows or suspects is a material customer, supplier or competitor of the Company (other than services to be provided as part of an employee’s job responsibilities for the Company)."

I don't completely understand the sentence "providing any services to a company that the individual knows or suspects" at all.
Does "the individual" refer to "An employee" at the beginning of the sentence?
What does the individual suspect about a company?

Thank you for any suggestions in advance.
