Japanese term

生活の実質や精神的共同関係

Japanese to English Medical Medical (general)
両者の生活の実質や精神的共同関係から見て、患者さんの最善の利益を図りうる人

The sentence above is based on the Japanese GCP guidelines, but I'm unable to figure out what 生活の実質 really means here (actual quality of life?).

Appreciate any inputs. Thanks!

Discussion

Shirley Foo (asker) Aug 18, 2021:
Thanks all for the suggestions. I had to go with "quality of life" considering the context, but unfortunately, I cannot confirm if that's the best choice. Hopefully there'll be something in English for reference soon.
Wee Siang LIM Aug 12, 2021:
I agree with you, the literal translation should be 'actual quality of life' but this expression is not commonly used in a clinical research. 'Quality of life' is the common expression.

Proposed translations

1 day 1 hr

actual lifestyle and psychological compatibility

QOL is usually for one person. This is talking about the lifestyles of more than one person.

I think that:
生活の実質=生活の実態 or 実際の生活
Note from asker:
Hi cinefil, thanks for the references. I referred to these materials as I translated, but it seems that this particular phrase appears only in the Japanese versions.
