English term
Assumptions about the matter
"Any fixed fee, capped fee or other fee arrangement we agree with you, or any costs estimate we give you, is based on the scope of the work anticipated and our assumptions about the matter at the time it is agreed or given."
Merci d'avance,

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

: Vraiment?

: it's not about the future (how long it will take to do it) it's about discovering unknown aspects of this "matter" once the work is started// like you assume a wall is of reinforced concrete and then you find a wall without any reinforcement bars

Ok, fair enough, but I used prévisions with the meaning of this being done at the moment of the assumptions, not at the one of the engagement letter.

: Pas faux, mais pas courant. Note: "Honoraires" est toujours pluriel.

Merci! Honoraires prend en effet un « s »...

Discussion
as "what anyone would reasonably assume that your description of this 'matter' means"
It would be something similar to the concept of "hidden defects"; meaning "if we start work and discover 'hidden tasks' - that are not part of what would be reasonably assumed to present in 'the agreed matter', then don't expect these 'unexpected hidden tasks' to be included in our price".
For example: you asked us to fix your database, and if it turns out your whole operating system is compromised beyond repair, don't expect us to also rebuild your whole operating system for the same price.
I see now from other questions that it's about some services paid by "chargeable time".
A confirmation about the type of services offered by this LLP might cut pointless guessing / avoid wrong assumptions.
