Spanish term

Remitente de tráfico

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Transport / Transportation / Shipping Import/export shipping
Spain and LatAm. This term appears under code 451 of the STCC (Standard Transportation Commodity Classification) listings. AFAIK, "remitente" is usually "sender", but I suspect that in this case it may another term for a freight forwarder, although they appear as "transitarios" elsewhere in the lists. Looking for confirmation or suggestions.

neilmac (asker) Oct 16, 2022:
Although the STCC codes began life in English, the problem is that sometimes they have been translated into other languages, in this case Spanish, and then translated back into English using MT, with some rather odd howlers appearing as a result. For example, one I came across yesterday was a list of currencies, and the string in Spanish had the Korean currency "won" as "ganó"...
neilmac (asker) Oct 16, 2022:
@phil I did find one list, an Excel sheet from the American Railroad Association, but some of the terms seem a bit iffy, and others are missing. "Traffic forwarder" might work, but it seems to be more an IT thing than logistics.
philgoddard Oct 15, 2022:
For what it's worth, the previous item on the list is SHIPPER ASSOCIATION OR SIMILAR TRAFFIC. I did find the English list, but I've lost it. That should answer the other terms in your text. My guess would be "traffic forwarder".
Helena Chavarria Oct 15, 2022:
The term appears in ‘En este modelo el anunciante solo paga al remitente de tráfico en caso de q…’. If you find the fragment, you might be able to work out what a remitente de tráfico is.

I’m using my phone and it’s very difficult to search for information, though I’ve found this manual where the term appears. Even if you can’t find the answer, you might find the reference useful.

Have you not found the English version of the codes?

shipper association traffic

As you might imagine, STCC codes began life in English and can be found if you look for them. What exactly it means I don't know, but I dont think you need to care either.

The Technical Committee agreed that the framers of the Code used the term "Similar Traffic" in STCC Section 45, "Shipper Association or Similar Traffic", for identification of shipper cooperatives, shippers' agents, pool car operators, consolidators, distributors, and other nonprofit groups exempt from regulation under
Part IV of the Interstate Commerce Act covering for-hire and for-profit freight forwarders.

8, Commodities, List of Standard Transportation Commodity Codes (STCC) and commodity ... 498, 451, Shipper assn traffic, 3, SHIPPER ASSN OR SIMILAR TF (CL).
Note from asker:
One of the previous strings in the list is "shipper association traffic".....
Transporte asociado o tráfico similar -> Shipper association or similar traffic Tráfico de transitarios -> Shipper traffic Tráfico de transporte de carga -> Freight forwarder traffic
In this link (https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-X/subchapter-C/part-1248/subpart-B), it comes up as: "Shipper Association or Similar Traffic, Carload or Truckload." So I may have to just use your suggestion in the end.
Peer comment(s):

agree Luis M. Sosa : IMO shipper will make it, all the rest is redundant.

Puede ser, pero lo puse tal cual como figura en el listado oficial.
neutral philgoddard : I'm not sure this is it. "Shipper association" is "transporte asociado".

Don´t forget the "traffic". This is exactly what is shown on line 451 on the official list of codes.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Although "Remitente de tráfico" does not seem to correspond to this translation, it is what appears on line 451 on the official list of codes, so I will just assume that the Spanish used here is a ropey translation. Thanks everyone who took the time to comment on this, I really appreciate it."

dropshipper

I can recall - from my pre-Internet, 2x student-job London export-clerking days - neither traffic forwarder nor, for that matter, dropshipping, but the latter seems to fit the bill : 'provide (goods) by direct delivery from the manufacturer to the retailer or customer.'

Otherwise, syntactically, de tráfico sometimes means 'in the course of a trade or business'.
Example sentence:

Coste por adquisición. En este modelo, el anunciante solo paga al remitente de tráfico una cantidad fija o porcentual si el tráfico enviado acaba en una conversión o venta

Compras el producto al Dropshipper > El Dropshipper envía el producto a tu cliente

Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : Your second reference implies that Spanish uses the English word. And, since this is an international set of codes, there is only one correct answer.
