Asker: Puesto que se trata de personas de bajos recursos que en su intento de migrar venden todos sus bienes, aunque algunas veces venden sus casas y autos, me parece que "assets" no sería tan adecuado en este contexto, quizas "belongings/possessions" quizas?

agree  neilmac: I agree with Manuel that "belongings and possessions" feels more appropriate for the people described. Rich folk have assets, The poor have meagre belongings.
