Catalan term

badius

Catalan to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
This is a text on coopertivism. My best guess is that it's a mushroom harvested in the wild, but I can find nothing to support this. The author uses the reference as if everyone will understand what this is. Is it possibly a typo?
Cheers!

Monte vecinals? This may be a case where the Catalan term has diverged from the original meaning (closer to what you indicate in Spain) and given that it refers to Galicia and Portugal, there are other terms (one you have cited) that appear to be the same: montes vecinales en mano común and Baldio. These are cited locally and in national law:

badiu in singular. There is no exact correspondance in English because it is part of both the architectural and cultural heritage of Catalonia. Basically it is the common area (outside patio usually) of an apartment in the city, but in the mountains is the area of overhang of the roof creating a covered space where things can be stored (particularlly suited to drying fruits, mushrooms, etc.). I suggest using the original term in Catalan, with a parenthetical explanation.

If you look at the first reference it provides a full description, but this does not have an English term. It is a common area than can be used for production (of food or rural goods), organization, or leisure activities for the good of the entire community (which may range from an apartment building, to a rural hamlet, to even somewhat larger groups).
Note from asker:
Any idea how porches might relate to coopertivism and mutual aid societies defending the common good? I'm lost here. I'll post the preceding paragraph for more context.
