French term

dispositif de lisage

French to English Tech/Engineering Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Weaving machines
Context:

New PR task. I ave in the past gone through many different weaving machines but never encountered "lisage". This as been translated as lathing, edging, slurry and straightening. Ive managed to find Lathe after my searches but was a translation from German:

Lathe device with two in one Level superimposed needles; iln- nien for the production of drier fabrics, where the drilling thread is one or more Skips standing threads, thereby identifying draws that of the two at the web load lovable and lowerable guided needle comb (5, 6 and j-4, 15) the t

I`ve also found slurry, but this seems to be the usual slurry and not a device as such.

The slurry coverage coefficient of S432 double slurry tank is still up to 72%, and the sizing is difficult. Therefore, the slurry is the principle of "wear-resisting and pasted feather, penetration and overburden, high and low viscosity, medium pressure and small elongation".
The following works should be paid attention to in the production: strictly follow the process formula, make the slurry in order, and wash the slurry tube before slurry; Ensure the viscosity of the slurry tank is stable, and the viscosity of 1h test is 1 time. Adjust the pressure force according to the sizing and viscosity. Reasonable design of yarn tension on all parts of the machine to reduce yarn elongation;

I`m not convinced by either. I think straightening can be discounted due to spelling i.e. only 1 letter s and not 2 as in lissage.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. I`ll be back later.
TIA Chris.

@ Phil I think the answer was lathing, except for the typo, i.e. the missing letter "c". It then becomes latching device. The diagram vaiguely resembles am escapement mechanism for a clock. I.e. a pivoted two-armed latch. This is part of the "read-in" mechanism of old.
Emmanuella Apr 26:

I.e. a latch that engages with items 711 and 712 and contributes to the reading of the degree of rotation.
Bashiqa (asker) Apr 24:
@ All I`m going to move on with tis document and hope that I find additional info to help me. I think Emmanuella is on the right track with "lecture". This device is possibly reading the angle of rotation of the shaft, even though it is at hig speed. I`ll keep you informed. Chris.
Bashiqa (asker) Apr 24:
@ Liz No I had not looked at Larousse, but have done now. Emmanuella`s contribution helps me to make sense of the diagram. The device looks like a pawl latch, wrapping around a shaft, so perhaps reading info or at least positions on the shaft. Certainly makes more sense than any of the translations that I`ve cone across.
Bashiqa (asker) Apr 24:
@ Phil Thank you. It`s nice to know that I can find rubbish.
philgoddard Apr 24:
Both of the translations are complete nonsense and not even worth reading.

My money would be on 'lissage': http://www.wordreference.com/fren/lissage

read-in mechanism/device

There is also a case to be had for 'lisage mechanism/device'. As far as I can make out, lisage refers to both punching cards for use by the loom and, as mécanisme [your 'dispositif'] de lisage, reading the cards used on the loom.

From the creation of the designs to the making, a Le Jacquard Français product requires 15 manufacturing steps, all carried out with the greatest care and an infinite sense of detail, before coming to dress your home: creation, lisage (translation of the creations into Jacquard language stitch by stitch), selection of the best quality cotton and linen yarns, countertyping of the yarn colors according to the trends of the moment

lisage is used in the English of Swedish experts here: https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:516245/FULLTEXT0... But it refers to the punching of the cards.

Here we have 'read in' for lisage:
Read in
French lisage
German einlesen
Italian lettura
Portuguese leitura
Spanish lisaje, lectura
Swedish inräkning
To tie the lashes onto the simple of a drawloom (or onto the tail cords); to punch the cards for a Jacquard loom, according to the point paper plan.
https://cieta.fr/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/English-Vocabula...

The punched cards are made from hard cardboard based on the technical draft or “mise en carte”, a technical drawing of the pattern, using a card punching machine, a so-called lisage machine or reading unit. (Fig. 9.) Punching holes in the cards is called to “läsa” (‘read’) the technical draft in Swedish notes about silk-weaving (compare: Fr. ‘lisage’, Eng. ‘to read’).
https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:877029/ATTACHMEN...

Punch card production was still time-consuming, involving a design process, mapping the design to the number of holes on a card, then adapting to the restrictions of the fabric grid. But they were reusable. The punch cards were made using a lisage machine ("creating the draft") and once punched, they were stitched together in a chain hung on a roller in the machine. A 60-inch piece of fabric, such as that Vesta left to us, consists of 4,600 warp threads; the Jacquard machines required 600 hooks to lift the threads run by over 3,500 punch cards. Compared to the painstaking process of Kashmiri weaving, making a shawl using a Jacquard loom took weeks rather than months or years.
By 1812, there were 11,000 Jacquard looms in use in France; by 1832, there were 600 in Britain. In England, weavers began using steam engines to power the drive belt, and prices for the imitations plummeted. One of the largest manufacturers in Europe was based in Paisley, Scotland; eventually, the swirly buta pattern became known as paisley.

I`d more or less decided about 4.00 am that reading device was a possibility. Thank you.

Thank you, I`ll check this out.
Hi, Not quite right, but along with entry from Bourth, did lead me to this machine https://www.staubli.com/fr/en/textile/products/weaving-preparation/beampro.html

Note from asker:
Hi, thanks for the different links. I`m looking more closely at "reading", as in reading/measuring the angle of rotation of one of the shafts. But for tonight, that`s it. Chris.
