insulation glass profiles
Hello all!
This is from a document about spacer profiles for insulation glass. WHile I have managed to work that much out, I really don't know how they work or anything (luckily its not a big document). But I have these two sentences which read as follows:
"Insbesondere die Position der Schweissung muesste bei der Herstellung und beim Trennvorgang keine zu grossen Toleranzen ergeben. Man muesste, falls erforderlich, pruefen, ob man den Schnitt nicht gegen die Schweissung herstellt."
It's the last bit that is giving me real trouble. Are they saying that you should check that the cut isn't made along the welding (seam)? Or something completely different?
Thanks very much for any help!
Hilary.

That's how I understand it. This typical bit of polite German indirect expression (giving someone a direct instruction seems to be the height of rudeness) requries an ear for nuance, but IMO the 'nicht' means the intention is that the the cuts are not made at the weld locations.

Think you've got it dead right. You could just leave it at "weld"- seam is almost superfluous here.
