Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jan 25, 2005:
thx. Groundhog day is when the groundhog makes his first appearance towards the end of winter and I know that i giorni della merla is when winter is at its coldest. I was just wondering if there was a similar idiomatic expression in English.

Dead of winter

Hi John,
Idiomatically we say the 'dead of winter'... the only other thing that comes to mind is involving Jack Frost somehow.

You'd think there *must* be an opposite of the "dog days of summer". Hmm...

the three coldest days in winter
