I don't know, but this might help

Low on gas I pulled into my local gas station. I removed the black lamb skin card holder from my back pocket to release the bankcard it holds. The card has my picture on it but, I rearely notice it these days. I slide the bank card into the card reader and pull it out as fast as I can. Ahh.. yes, acceptance. I can now start pumping. I pick up the nozzle, and remove my tank cap at the same time. Placing the nozzle into the tank, I remove my hand allowing it to rest on it's own. I still have to select the grade and lift up the lever before any gas will flow. I punch the button for 87 octane - it's the cheapest. It's all my little car needs. All ready -- I squeeze the NOZZLE HANDLE to release the fuel, setting the silver clasp into it's groove so I won't have to stand there holding the handle the entire time. http://www.thenyoudiscover.com/weblog/archives/2002_09.html

Here we have a little mini lever at the end of the trigger that permits the automatic filling of the tank, that is, you can let go of the NOZZLE HANDLE, until the nozzle detects that the tank is full via back pressure - which then releases the trigger and stops the flow. Else one may have to hold the nozzle for several minutes

The fact that not all valves that open and close the fuel flow path are well suited for preset cost or preset volume transactions is also of concern when designing fuel dispensers. Typically, to assist consumers in dispensing a fuel amount corresponding to the preset amount, some fuel dispensers are equipped with a two stage valve that allows high flow conditions throughout the majority of a fueling transaction and slow flow conditions at the terminating portion of the transaction. In slow flow conditions, the rate of fuel being dispensed slows dramatically to enable the dispenser to hit the predetermined volume or desired monetary amount. The slow flow portion of a preset transaction generates a consistent flow-rate so that the two stage valve may be de-energized at the proper time to achieve the desired termination point. In this manner, the consumer may stop squeezing the NOZZLE HANDLE at the appropriate time when the desired amount of fuel is dispensed. http://www.freshpatents.com/Dual-piston-poppet-flow-switch-d...

pistol grip

Your picture is misleading.
Its heading lists three different types of switch actuators:
Knebelgriff = T-handle (possibly knob)
Rüsselgriff (obviously an in-house invention) = pistol grip
Schlüssel (pictured) = keyswitch

See ref for pictures, which explain why the author calls it a 'Rüssel'.
