this is from a short story i am reading at the moment it crops up several times. I have found a reference that says it refers to a large tree with overhanging branches that give shade usually found in the middle of a souq.
However I have also been told it is a particular type of tree. The author is Omani if that helps.

is one fo the references i found.
the story makes reference to sittng in its shade learning the Qur'an.
