备板

Chinese to English Tech/Engineering Computers: Hardware
Hello,

I have problems with the translation of 备板. It is a part of the kanban production, but I can't find a proper translation for it.

Here is a context:

收发及仓储管理:实现车辆下线、倒运、出库等各个环节的管理,同时对车辆仓库摆放、提车、备板等实现看板管理;

I translated it as "prepared plates", but I am not very happy with it.
Are there any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Moreovr, 备 here means 备用, which can be somewhat equivalent to "spare", "standby" and "backup".
Shirley Lao Jul 31, 2014:
As the text mentions "仓储管理", there is the likelihood that 备板 here is a typographical error of 备件 (spare parts). However, I am not sure about this. It is only a suggestion.

spare tail-plates

My gut feeling is this is about spare tail-plates, i.e. 汽车尾板。You can goole 汽车尾板, which will show you it is the tail plate at the back of a lorry which can be lifted or lowered, so that goods can be moved into/out of the lorry.

As this context is talking about warehouse for vehicles, I am inclined to think my guess is right.
Peer comment(s):

agree Yan Yuliang : I agree with the "spare". However the accurate translation of "板" needs more context.

thanks. I would think it will be ok to use 'spare plates' to err on the side of caution

Spare Board/Card, Standby Board/Card

Since this is related to the Kanban (看板 - Dashboard Management http://goo.gl/RTtxj4) production system, I would think it is referring to the car inventory system (同时对车辆仓库摆放、提车、备板等) of placing, withdrawal, and spare (standby) board...

inventory

It is more like a bulletin board or billboard for showing the state of the preparation of production vehicles, because it is in line with management items like 仓库摆放、提车.
