the only suggestion I have is "harmonics standard" - but I am rather suspicious of this.

Neil's explanation is correct, but the actual term is "video standard", but "(World) TV Standards" is also often used.

agree Neil Cross : You're absolutely right, Johan: "video standard" is the more commonly used term. However, it should be noted that the Dutch equivalent is "videonorm", which the original author, for whatever reason, chose not to use.
