My question (to fans if possible) is how this "coupe" is known in French (among fans). I suspect it maybe "xxx championnat xxx" as the text the client gives me for consultation in Portuguese says "Championat allemand"... (???)

Well, I'm not too sure, but I know that my footballing mates make a clear distinction between the 'championnat' and the 'coupe', as does the French national football federation — so I don't think you should interchange the names unless you are sure of your ground (sorry!)
There definitely IS a 'coupe' competition in France that seems to equate to the Bundesliga cup, or the League Cup in the UK, of course.

Gilles is right to point out that it is not necessarily the League, which is exactly why I put (de la ligue) in brackets — but I have most often heard it in association with the Bundesliga, which is why I saw fit to mention it.
