In another option, the nanofibers of the at least one reinforced layer are oriented substantially randomly within the at least one reinforced layer. In other words, each of the layers are thin enough relative to the lengths of the nanofibers that the nanofibers tend to orient predominantly within the plane of each thin layer, rather than extend along the through-the-thickness dimension of the layer. As such, the reinforcement made possible by the nanofibers tends to be along one of the two axes formed within the plane formed by the respective layer, while no substantial increase in strength is evidenced in the layer’s out-of-plane dimension.
