I am currently translating a game, where the term "spring cleaning" is being described. In this context, spring cleaning is part of the mafia slang and means "cleaning up, hiding or getting rid of evidence" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of_Mafia-related_word... Is there a German equivalent for this? Not sure if this can be translated as "Frühjahrsputz".

Großreinemachen
A synonym for "Frühjahrsputz", which is also used in a figurative meaning.

: This is just total cleaning, but really does not refer to spring cleaning...although admittedly it amounts to the same

I felt that for this context, "spring" is not as relevant as the idea of a total clean up (including hiding evidence etc.). "Großreinemachen" reflects this better in my view.

: Sounds good (and much better than 'Frühjahrsputz') but we still need to establish if this is a term used in Mafia circles. (If it isn't we could hardly say something like "bei der Mafia nennt man das Großreinemachen' or whatever the context is)

: Sehr viel besser als der zu wörtliche Frühjahrsputz. Der Zeitraum des 'Wann' ist hier irrelevant. Das Ganze findet im Rahmen einer figurativen 'Entrümpelung' statt, bei der man sich des unnötigen/gefährlichen Ballasts entledigt.

Comment: "After seeing all the suggestions, it seems like that both Frühjahrsputz and Großreinemachen can be used. This term seems to be a fitting solution in my opinion, thanks!"

Großer Beweisputz
This is a completely hopeless entry indeed. However, I have at least heard the term "Beweisputz" once, coming out of the mouth of the hugely talented Leslie Nielsen in the German version of "Sehr Verdächtig", which happens to focus on hiding the evidence in a murder case, apart from the main plot of being a Wrongfully Accused guy on the run. Still, despite his rock-solid performance, the movie ended up one of the worst superstar-level comedy movies of all time, an utter fail with lame jokes galore and shoddy screenplay. I loved it!
