tank is circulated back to the bottom of the tank through tubes, passing through which the

Każda konwekcja wynika z istnienia prądu konwekcyjnego. W konwekcji naturalnej prąd ten powodowany różnicą gęstości pomiędzy obszarami o różnej temperaturze w płynie. W stanie stacjonarnym prądy konwekcyjne tworzą zamknięte pętle - komórki konwekcyjne. Komórka konwekcyjna, w danych warunkach (różnicy temperatur, lepkości płynu) ma pewne minimalne rozmiary.

Słownik naukowo-techniczny pod hasłem "head" podaje w szóstym znaczeniu: różnica poziomów niwelacyjnych - i tutaj "head" też oznacza różnicę (w tym przypadku temperatur).

Rozwojowi konwekcji sprzyjać będzie wysoki gradient termiczny oraz...
Rzeczywisty gradient termiczny w płaszczu tworzony jest dodatkowo przez procesy...

: "Head" na pewno nie jest warstwą, lecz różnicą (spadkiem, wzrostem), o której zresztą jest mowa w linku: "...wynikiem różnic temperatur, mówimy o konwekcji naturalnej." W linku warstwa termiczna jest warstwą PRZYŚCIENNĄ - w pytaniu chodzi o całą objętość.

Thermal Head
Thermal Head (or temperature head), the difference in the characteristic temperatures of a medium and a wall (or phase boundary) or of two media, between which heat transfer is occurring. The local thermal head is the difference between the temperature of the medium and the local temperature of the wall (or phase boundary) or the temperature difference between two media in a given cross section of a heat-exchange system. The mean thermal head is the difference averaged over a heat-transfer surface. The product of the thermal head and the heat transfer coefficient represents the heat flux, that is, the amount of heat transferred from one medium to the other across a heating surface of unit area in a unit time.
