LIGHT RTM PROCESS (LRTM)
The Lower Cost Alternative Takes the Lead in the Closed Molding Industry

The LRTM process is founded on what would be considered minimal tooling structure as compared to the traditional RTM or other closed molding process such as SMC or BMC. The tooling structure needed for the LRTM process is similar to that of the open molding process since there is minimal internal cavity pressure. The typical LRTM mold has one rigid half normally for the “A surface” (typically the female cavity) of the mold, with then a lite weight “see through” semi flexible upper mold half. Each mold half is made from a thermoset polyester or vinyl ester tooling gel-coat surface having a fiberglass reinforced thermoset polymer laminate backing that is then normally supported by steel box tubing to retain the tooling shape and provide an ergonomic orientation.

RTM. Resin transfer moulding. This most often means a process where resin is injected into a pair of clamped matched moulds at pressures greater than atmospheric pressure. However, RTM is sometimes applied to a vacuum infusion version of this process. See RTM Light.

RTM Light (Lite). Vacuum variation of RTM, where resin is drawn into an evacuated cavity between a male mould and a matching female mould. If the perimeter flanges around the moulds are extended and sealed off from the mould, vacuum may also be applied between the two flanges and used to hold the two moulds together. Where vacuum is used to clamp the perimeter flanges, the vacuum system must be capable of producing 2 individually controllable vacuum levels; one for the laminate region and one for the flange clamping region.

Różnica pomiędzy Light RTM, a tradycyjnym RTM jest mianowicie taka, że przy pierwszej metodzie ciśnienie wtrysku żywicy jest niewielkie, a cały proces wspomgany jest podciśnieniem. Proces ten pozwala na budowę przeciwformy o lżejszej konstrukcji stąd też nazwa „lekki” RTM.

W RTM „ciężkim” stosowane formy w znaczącej części zbudowane są z metalu co w znacznym stopniu zwiększa ich koszt budowy lecz pozwala na użycie większego ciśnienia wtrysku, a co za tym idzie pozwala na skuteczne przyspieszenie procesu oraz skrócenie czasu żelowania.
