English term
“zooming”

Доброго времени суток.
If we know the duration of a camera flash—say, typically about 1/1000th of a second—you can easily calculate some rough approximation of the orbs’ speed if their distance from the camera is known. For example, if you know an orb is five feet from the camera, and it
passes through a distance of say twenty feet during the duration of the flash, then you can readily grasp the enormous speeds at which they can move.
Some people have suggested that such “zooming” orbs may be discharges of energy. A digital movie will yield even better results. An orb movie can be successfully made with a digital movie camera that allows the hot mirrors (which filter out infrared light) to be deactivated, but this has the disadvantage of giving the pictures
a greenish tinge. It is probably preferable to do this by using a digital movie camera in conjunction with a powerful strobe, which would take the place of the still camera’s flash and cause the orbs to fluoresce.
У гл. zoom есть значение быстро двигаться.

To move about rapidly; swoop.
Но в оригинале оно почему-то в кавычках.
Спаибо.

"летящие"
IMHO потому и в кавычках, что это переносное значение для "быстро двигаться"

стремительно/моментально приближающие объект (с технической точки зрения?)
swoop is the closest to zoom, so the idea is to bring the object as close as possible in the shortest amount of time, sort of pounce on it
