English term

Constructions vs Structures

Not for points English Tech/Engineering Architecture
Hello,
I have to translate list of subjects studied on Faculty of Architecture. We had a subject named "Arhitektonske konstrukcije". Literal translation would be Architectural Constructions but I am not sure if that is correct translation or it should be translated as Architectural Structures. It was subject where we studied parts of building (foundations, walls, windows, doors, roof etc), what are they made of, how each one should be drawn, how to make it stable and similar. We only learned theoretically and draw, we haven't gone to construction yard. So which one is better option (if both are possible)? If not which one is the ONLY possible and why?
Thank you

@juvera That sounds convincing!

Let's see The disciplines are interrelated and they overlap. It depends on the outlook of the institution providing the course and their aims, how they separate them and try to express this in the description of the course. For example construction and structures can be taught by giving lectures and problem solving on paper or on computers, without actually building anything.

Obviously it is not enough and a budding architect will have to experience actual construction as well, to be able to become a reasonably rounded professional.

I am not going to search Google for specific examples, as they all have their agenda and it would take ages to come up with the exact definition, but I think six years of architectural studies in Hungary, Professional Practice finals and working as a registered architect in England for over 30 years, plus putting up with another architect in the house who is about to retire ;) gives me enough ground on which to base my opinion, which reflects the accepted standard practice.

You studied building construction That is the subject you described above.

It includes the basic concept of putting a building together to form a structure, but studying "structures" would include sizing and calculation of structural elements.

construction or structures

Architectural construction (no "s") or Architectural structures both feature in course titles. However, there is a difference, as "architectural construction" focuses on the activity of the designer and builder, while "architectural structures" focuses on the physical structures produced by that activity.

neutral juvera : Architectural construction focuses on the technology of constructing the building, architectural structures is about the structural concept and form of the edifice. Not to mention structural engineering, making the structure feasible and stable./above

Thanks juvera. Can you provide any references for that breakdown?
