English term

Maduro-manqué

English Social Sciences Government / Politics
The following sentence is taken from this article https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/macron-overblow...

"But, however much the Vichyist Le Pen and the Maduro-manqué Mélénchon might wish otherwise, the Benalla affair is no Watergate".

I am not sure of the meaning of "Maduro-manqué." Any help would be appreciated.

would-be Maduro

Nicolas Maduro is the current President of Venezuela - read all about him under this link

Mélenchon is a fan of Maduro and one of the rare politicians not to criticise his style of government. He sees himself as a sort of Maduro clone
