German term

Semmelschleifmaschinen

German to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering

with Johanna This is about bread rolls. Lots of demonstrations of the principle and technique on YouTube. First page of a Google search. No idea why the first answer is still on minus one. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the spelling of 'moulding'.
Johanna Timm, PhD Aug 25, 2014:
@ Yorkshireman: nein, "Schleifen" hat nichts mit "ribbons" zu tun!
"schleifen" nennt man das Rundmachen von Brötchenteiglingen

Yorkshireman Aug 25, 2014:
Schleifen I think we may have to think of it as a Semmel-Schleifen-Maschine

I am thinking of those mixing attachments that stretch dough in ribbons (=Schleifen) to make it elastic - sort of a figure eight between the rotating heads.

Which would make it a Wirkmaschine, as suggested by Edith.

from memory I cannot find this in any of my glossaries but have a feeling that they say polishing and not grinding

bun roll dividers/bun presses/bun moulders

In a number of ads described as a bread grinder - could be a literal translation - others describe it as a "bun roll divider", "bun press" or "bun moulder"

It's from Liversedge in Yorkshire, so it could well be what we are looking for :-)

neutral Edith Kelly : shame you squashed your last answer, might be helpful to others to find the right word. And it's neither of your three new proposals.

I left it in as a - possibly unlikely - option seen in a number of ads

Yes and no - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bun Bread bun is a common expression in the North, like a teacake, but without dried fruit. And what about item 1.1 from your link? And M-W: a sweet or plain small bread; especially : a round roll
agree billcorno (X) : This link translates to bread divider and bread moulder machine which I think is meant here. http://www.eberhardt-baeckereitechnik.de/Teigteil-_und_Wirkm...

"schleifen"

Brötchen schleifen= Brötchen formen

"Nun Brot und Brötchen „schleifen“, also formen. Dafür die vier kleinen Teigbälle mit den Händen in einer kreisenden Bewegung über die Arbeitsplatte rollen, bis an der Oberfläche eine Spannung entsteht, an der Unterseite ist durch die drehende Bewegung eine Art Spirale entstanden."
