Hebrew term

לשלול

Hebrew to English Medical Medical: Health Care
From "Discharge Instructions": הקודם לשלול שאין שם החמרה בדימום CT (lamed) ראש חוזר לשלול ולהשוואת CT יש לשקול לעשות
I translated, "Another CT of his head should be considered --- and to compare to the CT previously taken -- to insure that there has been no worsening of the hemorrhage." I'm sort of stuck on the rendering of שלל in this particular context.

compare and contrast / rule out

I think the two senses of לשלול in this sentence can be divided thus. In the first instance, I think they are getting at something like "לסתור".

"contrast

Therefore, for "לשלול ולהשוואת" I think they are basically getting at "compare and contrast", although I'm sure there's a better way of saying it in Hebrew.

("להתנגד" is also a synonym of "לשלול" according to Babylon)

The second sense is simply "rule out" or "ensure + negative"
(to ensure that there has been no worsening of the hemorrhage)
Example sentence:

..to compare and contrast with the previous CT scan...

..to rule out that there has been any worsening of the hemorrhage.
