Biosphere nomination
This is part of a biosphere reserve nomination:
A steep strip extends from the base of Pietra di Bismantova, made up of scree of varying ages, dropping vertically down to the softer shapes outlined by the argillitic basement, which in turn is affected by paleo-, active and dormant landslides.
As you can see I'm really stuck! Any help would be much appreciated on this sunny Saturday :)

There is no dropping down, it is a passage from a steep band (fascia acclive) to the smoother contours of the hills. Except that the passage is not gradual but rather sharp. HTH

Sarah,
as you see from the image, the "pietra di Bismantova" is a rigid sandstone block (what is left of a larger sandstone formation): at its base, there is a steep band that, in turn, rests on shaly successions characterized by softer forms. The limit between the latter two is sharp, not gradual. Of course you will find a better way to say it, but this is the meaning.

Thanks Paola, really kind of you to post that and much appreciated. It makes more sense now. |
